80 Bakes Around The World
Anyone else love to travel here? I love travelling, especially in the form of bakes and desserts, so for the next 80 weeks, I’ll be traveling around the world with 80 bakes. I’ll be trying to replicate desserts I’ve tried in countries I’ve been to/ on my wishlist. Sometimes I’ll give unfamiliar bakes a try too!
1. Madeleines, France
I’m starting my trip with my all time favorite: madeleines 🇫🇷, it’s also from the country I love visiting most!
A small cake that’s fluffy and moist with an iconic hump. I’ve had the best ones when I visited Paris. But let’s be real, they’re all good wherever you get them in France! It’s just not the same when you get them elsewhere. So for the longest time I’ve been trying to adjust my recipe so it’s the closest to the madeleines I’ve tried! 2. Danish Pastry, Denmark
We’re travelling to Denmark this time- the home of Danish pastries! I’ve never been to Denmark, but Copenhagen has always been on my wish list! 🇩🇰
This multilayered, laminated sweet pastry is an all time favorite in my household! So I’ve made these chocolate and almond Danish pastries. The buttery layers are to die for here. I know first hand how long making these pastries would take, but I’ve tested a recipe that works within 4 hours!
3. Taiwanese Castella, Taiwan
We’re travelling to Taiwan! I’ve been to Taipei before and their food is absolutely amazing! 🇹🇼
So I’ve made this chocolate chip Taiwanese castella, it’s sooooo fluffy and light, super moist with chocolate chips in the centre!! Its so good that I finished the entire loaf in one go! It’s like a chiffon sponge and it’s super popular in Asian countries!
4. Focaccia, Italy
For my 4/80th bake around the world, I'm travelling to Italy. I've been to Italy a few times and I love their food even more every time I go! I’ve made the classic Italian bread- focaccia 🇮🇹 This is a twist to the classic Genovese focaccia, made with rosemary and cherry tomatoes and topped with pesto, mozzarella, mortadella and even more cherry tomatoes! 5. Sachertorte, Austria
I’m taking you on a trip to Austria! 🇦🇹 I’ve made a twist to the traditional sachertorte. This is my sacher sheet cake, a super fluffy and moist sponge layered with apricot jam and chocolate ganache, just perfect for those of you looking for a bit of indulgence! 6. Pasteis de nata, Portugal
I’m taking you on a trip to Portugal! 🇵🇹 I’ve made my all time favorite: pasteis de nata. The flakiest pastry case with a silky cream filling- just soooo addictive! Pro tip: keep the pastry flaky and crunchy by finishing it all in one sitting! (I certainly did!)
7. Pretzels, Germany
I’m taking you on a trip to Germany! 🇩🇪 These are my German soft pretzels (or bretzels!) 🥨 It’s the perfect savory treat- or sweet if you dip them in cinnamon sugar! I love having these with a generous layer of butter, chives and a big stack of ham! Click here for my German soft pretzel recipe!
